Chelsea came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

Atleti took the lead from the penalty spot following a rash challenge from David Luiz.

Manchester United legend and football pundit Rio Ferdinand slammed Luiz following the game while praising referee Cuneyt Cakir for being in the right position.

Ferdinand underlined that Cakir made the correct decision and that Luiz let his teammates down.

“David Luiz has left himself and his team-mates down here,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“You see he’s the wrong side, he knows he’s the wrong side and he gets a handful of the shirt and the referee is in a great position. He doesn’t even protest.”

Chelsea conceded from the spot kick and relied on a goal in the fourth minute of additional time to leave Madrid with all three points.

Cakir is the most experienced Turkish referee at International and European level and has taken charge of over 70 UEFA matches including the 2015 Champions League final between Juventus and Barcelona.

The experienced referee also officiated the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League semi final match between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid at Vicente Calderón in Madrid, Spain on 10 May 2017.
