Turkish-Football reported that United have been scouting Talisca at the start of April.

Talisca is currently on loan at Besiktas, the reigning Turkish champions have the option to extend his temporary stay but Benfica have set a £21 million release clause.

Mourinho and Talisca do share the same agent, Jorge Mendes however there is a problem that could derail any potential deal.

Talisca has been on Mourinho’s radar ever since he was manager of Chelsea.

The United boss praised the 23-year-old but also revealed that the reason a Premier League club has not picked him up is because the Home Office will not give him a work permit.

Speaking to Portuguese broadcaster TVI24 [via Daily Mail] in 2014, Mourinho said: “I think Benfica hired well. They say Talisca is unknown, but he is only so unknown because he’s only not playing in England because he doesn’t have a work permit. If he had one, he would be here!.”

Talisca has not played for the Brazil national team so he would require the Home Office to give him a special permit on the basis of being a talent capable of contributing to football in England.

The powerful attacking midfielder is in the best form of his career and has directly contributed to 20 goals this season – 16 goals and four assists.

No other player has been involved in more goals than him in the Europa League group stages – four goals, two assists.
