“Despite what a lot of people seem to thing, the two strongest sides in the competition are Lyon and Besiktas,” Cebi was quoted as saying by Turkish-Football after the quarter-final draw.

The Besiktas board member went onto state that the Lyon v Besiktas clash was an early final.

“This is a game worthy of a final, you could say it is an early final, the two best sides in the Europa League will play,” he added.

United have already faced Turkish opposition in the Europa League this season, beating Fenerbahce at Old Trafford but losing in Istanbul.

The Red Devils actually finished their group runners-up in Group A behind leaders Fenerbahce.

The Premier League giants take on Anderlecht in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Besiktas could still end up facing United in the semi-finals or final if both sides progress past the current stage of the tournament.

Former United winger Memphis Depay will not be able to play for Lyon against Besiktas due to being cup-tied.
