Man United plot shock move for Liverpool star who was close to summer exit

Man United rival Juventus for Liverpool star who was close to summer exit

Liverpool star Emre Can continues to be linked with an Anfield exit.

Manchester United have become the latest club to enter the race for the midfielder of Turkish origin.

The Reds Premier League rivals could move ahead of Juventus in the chase for Can according to Corriere dello Sport.

Can could potentially be seen as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick who is reaching the end of his career.

Liverpool would be unlikely to allow Can to join a rival in January but they will have no say on the matter at the end of the season unless his contract situation is resolved.

The Liverpool midfielder has under 12 months remaining on his contract but has yet to sign a new deal.

The 23-year-old will be leaving as a free agent if the Reds do not reach an agreement by the end of the season.

United could face competition from Juventus after club CEO Beppe Marotta confirmed they made an offer for Can over the summer.

“We don’t think we are going to make a big signing in January,” Marotta told Premium Sport.

“Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like [Rodrigo] Bentancur who has already showed his qualities.

“We have faith in this team and in these lads. As for Emre Can I don’t think Liverpool will sell him in January.

“We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn’t sell him so I don’t think they’ll change their mind in the middle of the season.”
