Koç is expected to take over as Fenerbahçe club president in 2018 after he confirmed he would run in the next election.

“I will run for the presidential election in May 2018,” Koç was quoted as saying last year by Sporx.

Koç is expected to win with ease considering his status in Turkey. The Koç family are one of the most financially powerful and influential in the country.

Meanwhile Koç Holding is only Turkish company listed in the Fortune 500 list – the 500 most valuable companies in the world.

Mourinho has been linked with Fenerbahce in the past in fact the Yellow Canaries were the first club to make the Portuguese manager an offer outside of Portugal in 2003.

The 54-year-old manager’s contract at United runs until 2019 but it is worth noting that Mourinho has never stayed at a club over three seasons.

Koç is expected to invest heavily in Fenerbahce if he does take over as planned and the club could be in for a windfall if their compensation lawsuit against wrongful expulsion from the UEFA Champions League is successful.

Fenerbahce were found not guilty of match fixing on appeal and the case was thrown out of court but the club had already been suspended from the Champions League for two seasons and had several board members including current club president Aziz Yıldırım wrongfully imprisoned.
