The Istanbul giants ended up topping the group but were knocked out at the Round of 32 stage by Krasnador.

United beat Fenerbahce 4-1 at Old Trafford but succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in Istanbul.

United could however, face opposition from the Turkish league once again if they draw Besiktas.

The Super Lig reigning champions finished third in their Champions League group despite losing just once on Match Day 6.

Besiktas, Napoli and Benfica were separated by just one point going into the final group game.

The Black Eagles ended up crashing out after losing 6-0 to Dynamo Kiev but fans criticised referee Craig Thompson as being the main culprit behind the heavy defeat.

Besiktas reached the Last 16 stage after knocking Hapoel Beer-Sheva out 5-2 on aggregate.

United have faced Besiktas once in European competition back in the 2009-10 Champions League.

The Red Devils beat Besiktas 1-0 in Istanbul while the Black Eagles won by the same scoreline at Old Trafford in Group B.

Besiktas ended United’s 23 match unbeaten home run in European competition following the victory.

The Istanbul based side also became the first away team to win at Old Trafford in the competition since 2005.

United have faced Turkish opposition in European competition 14 times, winning seven, drawing three and losing four.

The Red Devils biggest win was 6-2 against Fenerbahce in 2004 while their heaviest defeat was 3-0 against Fenerbahce the same season in 2004.

The Eagles are currently managed by former Turkish national team manager Senol Gunes who guided the Crescent Stars to third in the 2002 World Cup.
