Man Utd legend praises Turkish international for ‘fantastic’ defending against Tottenham

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was full of praise for Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak in the Champions League clash against Tottenham at the BayArena.
The Turkish international star completed several key tackles, blocked goal bound shots and made vital interceptions over the course of the 90 minutes to help his side keep a clean sheet against Spurs.
Ferdinand was impressed by his display on the night and described some of Toprak’s defending as being ‘fantastic’ on BT Sport.
“Toprak was fantastic, he made a fantastic block, I think he did two of them,” Ferdinand said live on BT Sport after the game.
“He did a great block and a last ditch tackle.”
Toprak has played the full 90 minutes in each of the nine games he has started for Bayer this season. The 27-year-old defender was closely linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with Arsenal expressing an interest but the deal fell through.
Bayer ended up holding Tottenham to a goalless draw which leaves them without a win in the group stage thus far.
The Bundesliga outfit have now drawn their first three games in Group E and are currently third.
