Man Utd & Liverpool target Ilkay Gundogan looking for 'new challenge'

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has stated that he is contemplating a ‘new challenge’.

The 25-year-old joined the Bundesliga giants back in 2011 and has spent five years at the club.

“You can always see from two different perspectives,” Gundogan was quoted as saying by the Express said.

“Some will say, okay, he has extended, and if he should go next year, the club will therefore still get a lot of money. So it’s all good.

“And others say it’s only one year. Everyone has to form his own opinion – I just want to be honest.

“I appreciate this wonderful club very much, but my life plan also looks at some time with a new challenge.”

Gundogan signed a one year contract extension at the start of the season however, has turned down (Bild) his club’s latest contract offer.

Manchester United had an offer for Gundogan turned down at the start of the season according to the Daily Star. Liverpool have also maintained their interest in the 25-year-old after failing to sign him over the summer.

Dortmund sit in second place in the Bundesliga with 48 points in 21 games. The Bundesliga giants take on Porto in the UEFA Champions league this week.

Gundogan has six assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund this season.
