The 30-year-old striker joined the Lions from Arsenal over the summer in pursuit of regular first-team football in order to keep his place in the Germany national side.

Germany boss Joachim Low encouraged Podolski to make the move as he warned the powerful striker that he could get dropped if he did not get game time this season.

Low also underlined that Podolski was in need of encouragement and that Turkish fans will boost his confidence.

“Lukas Podolski relies heavily on getting regular game time, something which was no longer guaranteed at Arsenal, and I know that he’ll get a lot of encouragement from Turkish football and the fans over there,” Low told the official Germany national team website.

Podolski has one goal in four appearances for the reigning Turkish Super League champions this season and won the Turkish Super Cup on his debut.

The experienced striker is expected to be in the match-day squad against Poland in Frankfurt this evening.
