Fenerbahçe president Aziz Yıldırım has confirmed that Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie will arrive in Istanbul, Turkey on Sunday.
Yıldırım revealed the arrival date at the Fenerbahçe Topuk Yaylası and sporting director Giuliano Terraneo also made the same statement.
Yellow Canaries board member Ilhan Ekşioğlu also stated that nothing had changed regarding the Van Persie transfer following recent comments made by United boss Louis van Gaal.
The Dutch manager refused to comment on the reported transfer which led the Turkish media suggesting that the deal could be off.
“When we feel he is gone, you will hear from Manchester United. We don’t have that feeling yet,” Van Gaal was quoted as saying by Goal.
Ekşioğlu later tweeted: “Regarding Robin van Persie nothing has changed between the club and himself. We expect to announce his arrival date imminently.”
As reported by Turkish-football.com’s Emre Sarıgül and the Guardian’s Marcus Christenson on Thursday Fenerbahçe have reached personal terms with Van Persie who is expected to sign a three-year deal.
The Netherlands international is expected to join the Yellow Canaries for a €6.5 million transfer fee on a three-year deal.
