Besiktas beat rivals Bursaspor in their first game in the Vodafone Arena stadium yesterday to move six points clear at the top of the table.

Mario Gomez became the first player to have ever scored in the the new stadium but the lead was short lived as Bursaspor exploited sloppy defending from the Istanbul giants to play in Faty who equalised from six-yards out.

The Black Eagles came out in the second-half firing and Delgado regained the lead early in the second half. Besiktas were awarded a penalty minutes later but Gomez missed form the spot kick. The prolific striker was however, alert for the rebound which he fired into the back of the net.

Bursaspor gave Besiktas another scare with 20 minutes to go after on-loan Fenerbahce winger Miroslav Stock found the back of the net but it proved to be too little too late.

Gomez made history becoming the first player to score in the new stadium and also matched Ilhan Mansiz’s record for most goals scored in a single league campaign (21). The Germany international now has a total of 22 goals in all competitions for the Istanbul giants.

The powerful striker has attracted the interest of Manchester United who have expressed an interest in the striker according to Telegraph and FoxSport last month.
