Manchester United boss Van Gaal: Rafael United career is over

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Rafael da Silva has no place in the Red Devil’s squad.

Van Gaal indirectly criticised Rafael’s defensive qualities explaining it was the reason why he signed Matteo Darmian.

“I want always a player who can defend in the first place because when you are right full back you have to defend and cooperate with your fellow defenders,” Van Gaal was quoted as saying by Manchester United evening news.

“Manchester United wants to attack with the full backs. It is always the theory. Matteo Darmian has to fight with Antonio Valencia, he knows that but Valencia knows that also.”

The former Netherland national team manager failed to mention Rafael’s name during the press-conference.

Last week Turkish-football.com confirmed that Galatasaray were in talks with the Brazil international.

The 25-year-old right back has been placed on the transfer-list by United following the acquisition of the Italy international Matteo Darmian.

Rafael provided one assist and scored on goal in 17 appearances for Manchester United last season.
