Manchester United on verge of announcing Ilkay Gundogan transfer

Manchester United are on the verge of announcing the transfer of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan according to Spanish football website Todomercadoweb.

The report states that the move will be confirmed following Dortmund’s clash with VLF Wolsburg in the German Cup final. The DFB Pokal final will be played on Saturday, May 30.

The article goes onto say that United have managed to beat the likes of Barcelona in the race to secure the 24-year-old’s signature.

Manchester United have been closely linked with Gündoğan ever since he rejected extending his contract with Dortmund. Goal have gone onto state that the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the Germany international.

“Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals. If one day I leave here, I’d like to play in Spain or for one of the big teams in England,” Gündoğan was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror at the turn of the year.

Barcelona based newspaper Mundo Deportivo however, claimed that Gündoğan has passed a medical with the Catalan giants last weekend.

Gündoğan has five assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund despite spending much of the season out injured.
