Manchester United’s new signing Bastian Schweinsteiger has praised Liverpool midfielder Emre Can on his debut for the national team.

Germany defeated Poland 3-1 at home to move into first place in Euro 2016 qualification Group D. Joachim Low fielded Emre Can at right back on the 21-year-old’s Germany debut.

Schweinsteiger took to Twitter after the game to congratulate Can by uploading a picture of the team celebrating accompanied by the following caption, “Congratulations to Emre #CAN on his debut!”

Can joined the Reds on a £9.75 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen last summer as a central midfielder however, played predominantly as a defender in Brendan Rodgers back-three and as a full-back.

The 21-year-old has moved back into his preferred midfield role at Liverpool this season but Low decided to play Can as right-back on his international debut for Germany against Poland yesterday.

Germany move into first place in Group D overtaking Poland following the victory and take on Scotland next.
Can is also likely to feature against Scotland before returning to England for the Reds clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
