Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan can join Barcelona this summer according to the Spanish sports paper AS.

According to the report, Barcelona are looking to sign Gündoğan this summer but will be unable to register the German International until the clubs transfer ban ends in January 2016.

The 24-year-old would have to wait half a hear to make his debut for the Catalan giants.

Gündoğan traveled to Barcelona on Monday according to a report in the German newspaper Bild and while the reason behind the trip remains shrouded in mystery there are rumours that the 24-year-old held talks with the La Liga giants.

Barcelona plan to replace ageing star Xavi Hernandez with Gündoğan according to Mundo Deportivo.

Manchester United and fellow Premier League outfit Arsenal have also been closely linked with the 24-year-old over the past week according to the Daily Mail.
Gündoğan has four assists and three goals in 31 appearances for Dortmund this season.
