Meireles reminds Hillsborough victims families they have support of 'the whole Liverpool FC family'

Fenerbahçe midfielder Raul Meireles expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

Meireles wrote the following message on his Facebook page: “In the 26th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, I’d like to say to all of the victims’ families and friends that you are not alone in that; The whole Liverpool FC family are with you. May all of their innocent souls rest in peace. Gone but not forgetting. ‪#‎YNWA‬”

The Portuguese international also shared an image with each of the 96 children, men and woman who lost their lives in the game against Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium on April 15, 1989.

The 32-year-old won PFA Fans’ Player of the Year in 2011 during his time playing at Liverpool.

The Portuguese international played for the Reds during the 2010-11 season before leaving for Chelsea.

Meireles was recently selected to play in the All-Star game but had to pull out due to injury as did his fellow Fenerbahçe teammate Dirk Kuyt.

The experienced midfielder did however, travel to England and was involved in the Liverpool FC TV match day coverage of the game.
