Mersin 3-1 Samsunspor: Mersin go top of Group C [divider]
Mersin beat Samsunspor 3-1 at home to go top of Group C in the Turkish Cup.
Goals from Serol Demirhan, Güven Varol and Futacs were enough to ensure all three points. Safa Serbest did get on the scoresheet for the away side but it proved to be little more than a consolation goal.
Samsunspor dropped into last place following the loss.
Mersin boss Rıza Çalımbay admitted that he was pleased with the result considering they were missing a number of first-team players.
“We got what he came here for so of course we are happy with the result,” Çalımbay said.
“The game proved a good opportunity to play some of the players who have not received a lot of playing time this season.
“It gave them a chance to prove themselves and to be honest I was very impressed and a few may start playing more regularly after this.
“What is important now is being able to consistently perform at this level.”
