Mesut Ozil contract could cost ‘could cost Arsene Wenger his job’ – says Cascarino

Mesut Ozil could end up costing Arsene Wenger his job as Arsenal manager, according to Tony Cascarino.

The former Chelsea striker stated that Arsenal should offload Ozil this summer.

Ozil will have just 12 months remaining on his contract with the Gunners this summer.

Arsenal are set to hold contract talks with the 28-year-old at the end of the season. Ozil is understood to be holding out for a mega £300,000 a week deal, according to the Daily Mail.

However, Cascarino believes no other club across Europe would pay such figures for Ozil.

Cascarino went onto state that Arsene Wenger’s job could be under threat if he gives into Ozil’s contract demands.

“Do you think any of the top clubs in England are looking at Mesut Ozil and thinking ‘yeah, we’ll have a bit of him. We’ll take him for a quarter of a million a week’?” Cascarino told TalkSport.

“Absolutely no chance.

“He’s on the fringes of the game too often – and that’s being polite to him.

“People say laziness. I see a player who really looks like he’s doing Arsenal a favour being there – and he’s not.

“If you said to me tomorrow, ‘give him £100,000-a-week, sign him on a three or four-year deal’, I’d say ‘get rid of him!’

“Don’t even offer what’s on the table – take it away.

“And if Arsene Wenger agrees to that contract, I think that could cost him his job as well.”

Arsenal may be forced into selling Ozil this summer if they are unable to strike a new deal. The Italian outlet TWM have reported that Barcelona are are interested in the Germany international.

Ozil previously payed in Spain for Barca’s rivals Real Madrid.
