Mesut Özil played 90 minutes in Arsenal’s shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham United in their opening game of the season.

The 26-year-old received a rating of 6.67 from Whoscored after failing to register a shot on target. The Former Real Madrid playmaker did provide four key passes and maintained a passing accuracy of 87.7 but failed to leave his mark on the game.

Cheikhou Kouyaté and Mauro Zárate scored for the Hammers with Arsenal keeper Petr Cech at error on both goals. The Czech Republic international received the lowest rating of the game at 5.04.

Özil provided nine assists and five goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season. The 26-year-old played a staring role during Arsenal’s pre-season and has been tipped as a candidate for player of the year by manager Arsene Wenger.

Jack Wilshere, Flamini and Rosicky and striker Danny Welbeck were all out injured while Alexis Sanchez has missed the game after being given extended leave after the Copa America.

Arsenal have a tough away trip to Crystal Palace next weekend.
