Mesut Ozil hopes Turkey will qualify for Euro 2016

Arsenal superstar Mesut Özil revealed that he hopes Turkey will qualify for 2016 European Championship.

The 26-year-old did however admit that Turkey face an extremely tough task against the Netherlands in a must win game.

“The Turkish national team have dropped needless points so far but there is still time to rectify the situation,” Özil told the Turkish newspaper Fanatik.

“I want Turkey to qualify for the European Championships however, the game against Netherlands will be very difficult in my opinion. Turkey need to and I hope they are successful.”

Turkey who have picked up just four points in four games in the Euro 2016 qualifiers and have 594 points on the FIFA world rankings table.

The Crescent-Stars Euro 2016 Group A opponents Netherlands remain in 5th, Czech Republic remain in 17th, Iceland are 37th, Estonia are 85th and Kazakhstan are 139th.

Özil was born in Germany but was also eligible to represent the Crescent-Stars due to being born into a Turkish family.

The Turkish national team has several players born in Germany and Europe including Hakan Çalhaoğlu, Ömer Toprak and Nuri Şahin.

Turkey take on the Netherlands on March 28 in Amsterdam and Luxembourg on March 31.
