Mesut Özil predicts more Turkish players to join Premier League clubs next season

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil has revealed that he expects more Turkish players could join Premier League clubs next season.

“In recent years Turkish players have come a long way. The young players have huge potential,” Özil told the Turkish newspaper Fanatik

“They look after themselves well and are starting to prove themselves around Europe. If this continues I believe we will see more Turkish players in the Premier League next season.”

Arda Turan is currently the highest profile player to move from the Süper Lig to one of Europe’s elite leagues. Bursaspor midfielder Ozan Tufan and Beşiktaş winger Gökhan Töre have also been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

Outside of Turkey, Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu has also been closely linked with a move to England.

The Premier League currently has three players of Turkish origin. Özil, Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and striker Samed Yeşil.

Özil has scored four goals and contributed seven assists in all competitions for the Gunners this season.

The 26-year-old has provided the most assists in the Premier League since returning from injury. Arsenal are currently 3rd in the Premier League and take on West Ham at the Emirates on the weekend.
