Mesut Özil has revealed that the Arsenal fans were his highlight of the season in an interview on the official club website.
Özil stated that the fans backed him throughout his three month spell on the sidelines last season.
“There have been several. Of course I remember my comeback, where the fans supported me so well. There have been matches where we have been outstanding as a team and I’ve contributed to that by playing well. That pleases you as a player, but the main thing is that we continue to be successful as a team,” Özil was quoted as saying on the Arsenal website.
The 26-year-old has a huge social media following and only Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has a more popular Twitter profile.
Özil has a total of 9.5 million Twitter followers, 26 million Facebook likes and 2.8 million Instagram fans.
The World Cup winner keeps his fans regularly updated via his social media accounts and often interacts with his followers.
Özil was one of his sides star performers in 2015 winning two Vitality and one PFA Fans player of the month awards.
The Arsenal star is currently on his summer holiday after which he will return for pre-season training.
