‘He is not going to be the man to take Arsenal forward’ – Graeme Souness rips Mesut Ozil to shreds ahead of Man United clash

Football pundit Graeme Souness slammed Mesut Ozil ahead of the Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Souness had some less than favourable things to write about the Germany international of Turkish origin.

The former Galatasaray manager revealed that Ozil is not the player to take Arsenal to the next level and that they may struggle to recoup the £42.5 million they invested in him back in 2013.

In fact Souness wrote that he feels the Gunners may actually struggle to find bidders for their star man this summer if he does decide to leave.

Sounes wrote the following in the Sunday Times article: “I would not push the boat out to keep Ozil. He is not going to be the man to take Arsenal forward and win trophies when the going gets tough. If they sell him now, would they get back the £42.5m they paid Real Madrid for him four years ago? There won’t be a queue around the Emirates for the 28-year-old.”

Ozil will have 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season but has yet to reveal whether he will sign a new deal and stay on at the North London based outfit.

The 28-year-old has received interest from Turkish league giants Fenerbahce.

In a recent interview Ozil revealed that he has been facing pressure from his family to consider joining the Istanbul giants.

“Many people ask me that question [about Fenerbahce], my family, my friends,” the World Cup winner was quoted as saying by Fanatik.

“When they hear something like that they keep telling me: “Join that club” or “Go there!” But at the moment I have a contract at Arsenal and I do not think about Turkey or other leagues.

“You can never know what is going to happen in the future. I feel very, very comfortable here.

“We’ll see about the rest.”
