Fenerbahçe were held to a 1-1 draw against Galatasaray in the Intercontinental derby on the weekend maintaining their 16 year unbeaten record against the Lions at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium.

On-loan Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic started for Fenerbahçe on the right-wing and caused Galatasaray a number of problems on the break with his pace and dribbling ability.

Markovic created a number of chances down the flank and made the highest number of crosses for his side (7) as well as the most key passes (3).

Fenerbahçe were ahead for most of the game following Diego’s goal on 36 minutes but Galatasaray equalised late on to rescue a point.

The point moved both Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe who were only separated by goal difference one point behind leaders Beşiktaş.

Markovic joined Fenerbahçe on a one-year loan from Liverpool over the summer and will stay in Istanbul until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old failed to settle in at the Reds last season after being played out of position but has feature in his favoured attacking midfield/winger role at Fenerbahçe under the stewardship of Vitor Pereira.
