“Ozil has no excuse” – Gary Neville demolishes Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil following Chelsea draw despite not playing

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil doesn’t seem able to escape criticism even if he doesn’t play.

The 28-year-old was sidelined for Arsenal’s clash with their London rivals Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. The Gunners held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Ozil also missed Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over FC Koln in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Following the game SkySports pundit Gary Neville heaped praise on Arsenal for their disciplined performance. The former England international believes Mesut Ozil’s absence helped the Gunners.

Neville went onto accuse both Ozil and Sanchez of failing to show the right attitude in big games.

“Arsene Wenger made a difference. He chose attitude and hard work over talent,” Neville stated live on Sky Sports.

“Iwobi and Welbeck did what Ozil and Sanchez didn’t do at Liverpool. They attached themselves to the two central midfielders.

“If there not going to do that, then sit in the stands and let two less talented players do the job.

“When I saw Xhaka and Ramsey in this team today, I thought they would get bulldozed in midfield, however, Iwobi tucked in, making Chelsea go wide and Welbeck did the same on the other side.

“When you think about Ray Parlour and the job he did for Arsenal over the years, of course, there would have been more talented players than him but he put in the hard work and showed the right attitude.

“Ozil has no excuse not to get back in his position after seeing that today.”

Both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez’s contracts expire in under ten months.

Arsenal take on Doncaster in the Football League Cup Third round on
Wednesday before hosting West Brom at the Emirates on 25 September.

Ozil has made four appearances in the Premier League this season for the north London based club.
