Ozil was a 'letdown' in Champions League says Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard

Arsenal news Per Mertesacker

Liverpool legend and LA Galaxy star Steven Gerrard stated that Mesut Özil was a let-down against Dynamo Zagreb following the Gunners 2-1 defeat against the Croatian giants.

Arsenal suffered a shock loss in their opening Champions League Group F game in Croatia.

“Özil will be very disappointed with his performance tonight, he consistently gave the ball away and I don’t think he worked hard enough for his teammates he was a let down tonight,” Gerrard said speaking on BT Sport after the game.

The World Cup winner had an uncharacteristically poor passing game only achieving 77.8 percent accuracy.

Özil did not put on his best performance but the team was delivered a set back on 39 minutes when Olivier Giroud was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The 26-year-old was coming off the back of a man of the match performance in the 2-0 win over Stoke City at the Emirates last weekend.

The Gunners take on Chelsea next in the Premier League in what will be rematch of the Community Shield final that Arsenal won. Özil is expected to start against the Blues on the weekend.
