The game coincides with Throwback Thursday which is a popular social media hashtag where a picture or message is shared from a period in the past.

Frei was of course a Besiktas player before joining the Blues in January.

The Turkish international winger was part of the Besiktas side that won the league title last season and booked a place in the Champions League.

Frei has struggled for playing time at Birmingham City but head coach Gianfranco Zola did praise his new signing following his display in the 1-1 draw against Cardiff City.

Zola was quoted in the Birmingham Mail as saying: “There was a moment when the goal unsettled us, but I think when we changed, Kerim [Frei] came on the pitch and we changed with Che [Adams] and we had something more going forward. That created a lot more opportunities.”
