Revealed: Clauses in Kerim Frei’s Birmingham City contract

Kerim Frei joined Birmingham City from Besiktas on a €2.25 million transfer over the January transfer window.

Turkish media agency IHA have revealed that the Black Eagles could end up making €3.5 million on the deal due to clauses in his contract.

Besiktas stand to make an additional €250,000 when Frei makes 20 appearances for the Championship club.

The Istanbul giants will also make an extra €500,000 should Birmingham City ensure promotion to the Premier League.

The reigning Turkish league champions start to earn €500,000 more if Birmingham City stay in the Premier League for an additional season without getting relegated.

Promotion is unlikely this season considering the Blues are currently 18th in the league, on 45 points at 38 games.

Birmingham City are actually closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs. The Blues are just five points above the drop zone.

Frei played a role in Besiktas winning the Turkish league title last season and featured in the Black Eagles Champions League campaign over the 2016-17 campaign.

The Turkish international joined the Blues in pursuit of regular first-team football but he has struggled to establish himself under head coach Gianfranco Zola.

The 23-year-old winger has made just three stats since joining the Championship side from Besiktas, playing a total of 371 minutes.
