Revealed: Ozyakup prayed for a chance when Man United beat Arsenal 8-2

Besiktas star midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup revealed that he prayed for a chance to play during the game Manchester United beat Arsenal 8-2 at Old Trafford in 2011.

Ozyakup was on the bench for Arsenal during the game.

Most players would probably have not wanted to make an appearance considering the scoreline but the Turkish international revealed that he wanted to prove himself to the team.

“I was on the bench during that game [Manchester United 8-2 Arsenal], when United started scoring I prayed for a chance to come and show myself,” Ozyakup told FourFourTwo Turkey.

“Wenger told me to warm up, then he called me back to the bench when United made it 4-1.

“I guess looking back now it is probably a good thing I did not come on.”

Wenger did not end up playing Ozyakup against United.

Despite captaining the youth team, Wenger never did make much use of Ozyakup in the first-team.

Ozyakup left Arsenal in 2012 after growing frustrated with a lack of playing time.

The midfielder joined Besiktas where he became a first team regular.

The 24-year-old played a key role in Besiktas winning the league title last season and his side are currently first, favourites to defend the championship.

Ozyakup has been linked with a return to Arsenal.

Turkish-Football recently confirmed that the Gunners have been scouting their former midfielder and are considering making an offer.

Ozyakup would be the first player from his generation of Arsenal youth players to return to the club after leaving if he was to join the North London outfit.
