Roberto Carlos reveals how close he came to joining Chelsea before embarking on his Turkish adventure

Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos enjoyed an illustrious career winning just about everything in club and international football.

Carlos joined Turkish league giants Fenerbahce after an 11 season spell at Real Madrid in 2007.

The Brazilian full-back was however, close to joining Chelsea before his move to Istanbul.

The 44-year-old never did play in the Premier League but almost joined the Blues in 2007.

“I met with Roman Abramovich in Paris we spoke and there were a few things we couldn’t agree on,” he told the Sun.

“It was close but, in the end, it wasn’t possible.”

The Blues were Premier League champions the previous season but the deal didn’t go through.

Carlos became a fan favourite at Fenerbahce and won two Turkish Super Cup trophies.

The former full-back played in Brazil, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Russia and India over the course of his career.

Carlos’ most succesful stint was at Real Madrid where he won four La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

In addition to winning 20 trophies at club level Carlos also won the World Cup and two Copa America titles.
