Is Stoke City’s Charlie Adam about to move to Turkey?

There have been a few bizarre transfer stories over the transfer window but perhaps the strangest so far has been Charlie Adam to Fenerbahce.

ESPN reported on Tuesday that Fenerbahce are weighing up a move for the Scotland international.

Apparently Fenerbahce boss Dick Advocaat is a big fan of Adam from his time coaching in Scotland and England.

Advocaat has of course coached Adam before during his time in charge of Rangers so he is familiar with the 31-year-old.

Per the source, Fenerbahce are targeting a move for Adam before the end of January.

The transfer rumour came pretty much out of the blue and it is the first time Fenerbahce have been linked with the 31-year-old.

Could it happen?

A source close to Fenerbahce told Turkish-football.com that he was also puzzled by the rumour and that an offer has not been made for Adam.

Fenerbahce are however, in the market for an attacking midfielder and they have yet to secure a number 10 which is a transfer priority.

The Yellow Canaries have lacked creativity in midfield and Adam would actually slot into Advocaat’s system.

Adam was not on Advocaat’s shortlist but Fenerbahce are running out of time to sign an attacking midfielder.

The report states that Stoke are keen on keeping hold of Adam but it is worth noting he has just six-months remaining on his current contract.

Stoke do have an option to extend his contract by another year and considering he has re-establishied himself as a first team regular starting in 11 of the previous 13 games for the Potters it does make you wonder if his representatives are using the Fenerbahce interest as leverage to lock down a contract extension.

Social media networks are full of jokes about Adam having a fondness for a late night kebab but he’s probably best off in Stoke for famous Turkish dish.

Going for a Doner Kebab after a night out on the town may be a common site in most major cities in England but it is pretty much unheard of in Istanbul.

The Doner Kebab is in fact probably more popular in the UK than in Turkey.

The choice of food after a night out drinking in Turkey is usually tripe soup, owing to its reputed ability to soak up alcohol and prevent a hangover.

The transfer looks unlikely but it would not be the first time Adam has worked with Advocaat.
