Liverpool news: ‘Stupid’ Reds must win every game to reach Champions League, says star midfielder

Liverpool must win every game if they are to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, according to Emre Can.

The Reds have four Premier League fixtures remaining until the end of the season.

Liverpool’s remaining fixtures:

Watford v Liverpool
Liverpool v Southampton
West Ham v Liverpool
Liverpool v Middlesbrough

Can stated that Liverpool were “stupid” for dropping points against Crystal Palace over the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Anfield on Sunday. The defeat dented the Red’s hopes of Champions League qualification.

Can believes Liverpool cannot afford to drop any more points between now and the end of the season.

“We are frustrated and disappointed,” Can was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

“We controlled the game. I think we didn’t play too bad but then we conceded two goals from two chances.

“Everyone is very disappointed because we should have won this game. We had the chances.

“It was stupid from us. Again it was a set-piece. We had worked on them in training, we had trained very well.

“In all the set-pieces in training we had done very well, but again we concede a goal from a set-piece. It was stupid.”

“When you look at the bench, it is very young,” he added.

“We miss a lot of our players, there are a lot of injuries. You should look at Chelsea. They are lucky with that for example.

“We don’t have luck with this. But it is no excuse. We have to go again. We have to fight for our target. From Monday, we have to look forward.”

Liverpool currently sit in third place in the Premier League. City are two points behind in fourth while Man United are three points behind the Reds in fifth position.

Both City and United have games in hand going into the final stretch of the season.
