Sunderland transfer news: Besiktas join race for Croatia international

Besiktas are the latest side to be linked with a move for the Croatia international defender Domagoj Vida.

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, Besiktas are interested in signing Vida this summer.

The Black Eagles are keen to bolster their defensive options at the end of the season. Manager Senol Gunes has been forced into fielding a fullback Dusan Tosic at centre-back in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the Sunderland Echo states that Sunderland have had a long-term interest in the 27-year-old. Per the source, Sunderland targeted him last summer and during the January transfer window.

The Turkish newspaper Fanatik have also linked Galatasaray with a move for Vida. Galatasaray are understood to be already in talks with Vida’s agent Anthony Seric.

Besiktas are currently sitting at the top of the Turkish League table with 55 points after 25 games. The Istanbul giants take on Ankara based club Gençlerbirliği in their next fixture next week.
