Super Lig giants overtake Liverpool in UEFA club rankings following Champions League Matchday 1

Besiktas kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 victory away to Porto.

The Black Eagles became the first Turkish club to ever beat the Portuguese giants in the process and also won an opening Champions League group stage game for the first time.

The victory propelled Besiktas up one ranking in the UEFA rankings for club competitions above Liverpool.

The Black Eagles are now in 34th place overall while the Reds dropped into 35th position.

The rankings are based on an average tally over each clubs last five seasons in European competition.

The Black Eagles are in 12th place this season after winning their opening Champions League group game.

The Reds meanwhile are one spot below the Super Lig champions in 13th after drawing their opener against Sevilla at Anfield.

Besiktas made it to the Europa League quarter-finals last season eventually bowing out on penalties to Monaco.

The Eagles will take on Bundesliga outfit Leipzig next in the Champions League.
