Three reasons Arda Turan would be a success at Chelsea

Arda Turan and the summer transfer window have become synonymous over the last few seasons but it does seem that this could be the year that the Turkish international leaves Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old winger’s agent Ahmet Bulut recently revealed that his client wants to play in England and also confirmed being in talks with three Premier League clubs.

“He intends to leave Spain this summer. It is his will to go out to play in the Premiership, that is where he would like to continue his career at this time,” Bulut told AS.

“His departure from Atletico is not easy because he has a clause of €41m. There are ongoing talks with three teams at the moment. I cannot say their names, but they are the best of England and European football.”

Manchester United and Chelsea are currently the bookmakers favourite to sign the bearded winger but the Blues are just ahead according to Spanish sports newspaper AS.

Here are three reasons Turan could be the right man for Jose Mourinho.

Work Horse

It is no secret that Jose Mourinho has a soft spot for a hard worker. The Portuguese manager is even willing to criticise his biggest stars if he feels they are not putting in a shift. Not even Eden Hazard has been able to escape criticism from Mourinho for not being assiduous enough. Mourinho once said: “He’s not the kind of player ready to sacrifice himself 100 per cent for the team and his mates. Eden is the kind of player who is not so mentally ready to look back at his left-back and give his life for him.” Arda Turan is in many ways the archetypical Mourinho player, technically gifted, a great passer and dribbler of the ball but also willing to sacrifice himself for the team. The man with arguably the greatest beard in world football averaged two tackles per-game last season (Whoscored) something even a defender would be pretty pleased about. On the attacking front Turan is the only Atleti player to have completed more than 100 dribbles in La Liga with Diego Simeone as manager.
