Three reasons why Liverpool should sign Hakan Calhanoglu
Hakan Çalhanoğlu has been setting the Bundesliga alight this season with his phenomenal free-kicks and has been closely monitored by the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool in recent months.
The 21-year-old played a crucial role in Bayer Leverkusen’s UEFA Champions League run and could be set for a summer move if he continues to impress.
Liverpool were interested in the attacking midfielder at the start of the season before he was snapped up by Leverkusen. Here are three reasons why the Reds should pursue to the talented midfielder.
1. Set Pieces
Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s biggest weapon is without doubt his deadly set-piece taking ability. Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola rates the 21-year-old as one of the best free-kick takers in the Bundesliga stating, “Çalhanoğlu is one of the best free-kick takers in the Bundesliga.”
The 21-year-old has scored four direct free-kicks this season and hit the back of the net a total of seven times from direct free-kicks in the Bundesliga in his career despite his young age.
Liverpool currently lack a free-kick taker and have only scored three goals from set-pieces this season – the second worst record in the Premier League.
