Tottenham’s Alex Pritchard has urged Gareth Southgate to take the strongest possible squad to the under-21 European Championships this summer.

“You look at Spain and Germany when they played Under-21s, with the likes of Mesut Özil, and they moved onto the national team having all played together,” Pritchard told the Sun newspaper.

“I think it’s about time England started producing in tournaments. With the talent we’ve got in the squad, I don’t see why we can’t go there and win.”

Özil and Germany won the under-21 European Championships six years ago, and many of that team were part of Germany side which lifted the World Cup in Brazil 2014.
