Video: Turkish League Wrap – Van Persie overtake ex Man Utd teammates, Mario Gomez on fire

Trabzonspor 1-0 Mersin

Trabzonspor ended a rotten run with a slender 1-0 victory over relegation battlers Mersin. On-loan Chelsea  winger Marko Marin setup Paraguay international Oscar Cardozo for the winning goal.

Gaziantepspor 0-1 Konyaspor

Konyaspor continued their march to finishing in third place with another victory this time against Gaziantepspor. The Anatolian Eagles are unbeaten in 2016 under the stewardship of Aykut Kocaman who has won the league in the past – with Fenerbahce – winning 12 and drawing three.

Basaksehir 2-3 Osmanlispor

The Istanbul minnows suffered a blow to their top-three challenge in an uncharacteristically high scoring affair against Osmanlispor.

Eskisehirspor 3-3 Akhisar

Eskesehirspor are starting to show some fight as they attempt to get themselves off the foot of the table. EsEs will however, have to go on a winning streak if they are to close the five point gap between themselves and safety.

Rizespor 1-2 Besiktas

Jose Sosa has been on fire lately and blasted the Black Eagles into the lead with another superb free-kick effort. Former Fulham youth Kerim Frei got a rare start and rewarded head coach Senol Gunes with a goal which was setup by ex Arsenal youngster Oguzhan Ozyakup to complete a goal with roots in the Premier League.

Galatasaray’s nightmarish run continues but was overshadowed by the tragic news of Umut Bulut losing his father in the Ankara terror attack.

Fenerbahce 1-0 Kayserispor

Robin van Persie scored his 15th goal of the season in the victory over Kayserispor to move – temporarily – top of the table. The Dutch star now has more goals than all his former Manchester United teammates in all competitions.

Sivasspor 1-0 Kasimpasa

Sivasspor took an important step in their battle to stay in top-flight football beating Kasimpasa to close the gap with 15th placed Kayserispor to just two points.

Antalyaspor 3-0 Bursaspor

Samuel Eto’o returned with a bang scoring a brace against in-form Bursaspor to move the newly promoted side into 11th place. The Cameroon international sparked controversy mid-week claiming Messi was in another league to Cristiano Ronaldo before scoring taking his overall goal tally to 18.

Trabzonspor 0-2 Besiktas

Besiktas and Trabzonspor were originally supposed to play a few months back but the game was cancelled due to heavy snow. The Black Eagles made light work of the Black Sea Storm at the Avni Aker with Mario Gomez and Olcay Sahan getting their names on the scoresheet. Gomez has now scored 21 times in all competitions this season so Cha Cha to that.
