Nani looked a little startled when he was greeted by over a thousand fervent fans at the Sabiha Gökçen airport in Istanbul on Monday.
Turkish football has a level of fanaticism that has to be seen to be believed. The Portuguese international was greeted by thousands more fans at his signing ceremony and was so blown away by the reception that he stated: “Now I understand how big this club is, I will do everything to repay the fans.”
Fenerbahçe fans are obviously head over heels with their new signing so we thought we would head over to Twitter to gage the reaction on social media.

Nani’s former teammate Rio Ferdinand could not fit all he had to say on the matter into 140 characters and provided a link to an epic Facebook farewell message where he described Fenerbahçe’s latest signing as one of the best dribblers of the ball he has ever seen.
European football expert Andy Brassel explored the implications of Fenerbahçe’s recent transfer activity and whether it would ultimately benefit Turkish football or end up backfiring.

Nani won’t have trouble making friends at Fenerbahçe as he will join Portuguese international teammates Raul Meireles and Bruno Alves. He will also have seven Portuguese speakers to converse with and manager Vitor Pereira also happens to be from the motherland.
