Two suspects detained over Fenerbahce team bus attack released

The two suspects detained over the Fenerbahçe team bus shooting have been released on probation according to Rahmi Üstün, mayor of Sumene district in Trabzon province.

The two cousins, identified only by their initials, N.S. (38) and E.A. (27), were detained in the Sürmene district of Trabzon province on suspicion of carrying out the attack.

A Trabzon court declared that there was not enough evidence to charge the detainees and ordered for their release.

Trabzon governor Abdil Celil Öz said one of the suspects tailed after the team bus on its way to Trabzon from Rize and informed the other when the team were close to Sürmene and opened fire on the team bus with an automatic rifle.

The Fenerbahçe team was making its way toward Trabzon’s airport following a 5-1 Süper Lig victory at nearby Çaykur Rizespor when the attack took place.

The driver Ufuk Kıran was shot however, the rest of the team and staff were unharmed.
