Van Persie talks 'regularly' with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Fenerbahçe striker Robin van Persie revealed that he regularly keeps in contact with his former manager Arsene Wenger.

Contrary to popular belief Van Persie enjoyed close ties with Wenger and the two still talk to each other.

“People think there was an argument between us [Arsene Wenger]. On the contrary we always had a lot of respect for each other. I’m still talking to Arsene regularly now. He is a world class coach and manager and above all, a classy man,” Van Persie told the Sunday Times.

Van Persie was heavily criticised by Arsenal fans following his move from the North London based club to Manchester United.

The Dutch star was however, a fan favourite during his eight season stint at Arsenal scoring a total of 131 goals in all competitions for the Gunners.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahçe on a three-year deal from United last Tuesday and could end up playing his former side in the playoff stages. The Yellow Canaries will however, first have to eliminate Shakhtar Donetsk to enter the final play-off stages.

United would face two former players should they end up drawing Fenerbahçe in the play-off round – Nani and Van Persie.
