Galatasaray were defeated 2-0 at the Türk Telekom Arena by Atletico Madrid yesterday in their opening Champions League group game.

On-loan defender Jason Denayer made his Galatasaray debut and it was also his first Champions League game but you would have never have thought it given his impressive performance.

The 20-year-old made a number of dangerous runs down the flank setting up Lukas Podolski with one of the best chances in the second half.

Denayer also showed that he is not half bad on the ball either.

The Belgium international was arguably the Lions best performing defender on the night and made several key blocks – four in total, more than any other player in the game – preventing Atleti from converting two clear goal scoring opportunities.

Denayer has a £30 million release clause according to Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek.

“Denayer is one of the highest value players in Turkey and has a £30 million release clause,” Özbek said speaking on the ‘Sportürk’ program on Habertürk.

The young defender is expected to start for Galatasaray on the weekend against first placed Trabzonspor.
