Bayer Leverkusen were knocked out of the Champions League group stages following a 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the BayArena yesterday.

Turkish international Hakan Çalhanoğlu started for Bayer and put on a man of the match performance according to Whoscored who gave him an 8.36 rating.

Barcelona took the lead thanks to a goal from Messi on 20 minutes but Çalhanoğlu setup Chicharito just three minutes later for the equaliser.

The 21-year-old could have scored himself and took the highest number of shots on target (4) but Barcelona keeper Ter Stegen made a number of important saves.

Çalhanoğlu also could have had another assist as he also provided the highest number of key passes (5).

It was not difficult to see why Manchester United have been closely linked with the Bayer star. The Bild recently reported that the Red Devils are keeping close tabs on the Turkish international and with Bayer out the Champions League it could strengthen the Premier League giants hand.

Bayer were however, unable to find another goal and ended up booking a place in the Europa League Round of 32 instead of the Champions League Last 16 as Roma held BATE to a goalless draw.
