Video: Shocking scenes in Turkey as Basaksehir players attack member of the press
Istanbul Basaksehir players attacked an A Spor reporters following their 3-3 draw with Rizespor on Saturday.
Turkey national team goalkeeper Volkan Babacan was also involved in the altercation. Babacan placed his hands on the neck of a journalist before his teammates got involved.
Back-up keeper Ufuk Ceylan and defender Yalcin Ayhan also attacked the reporter in the incident.
The incident was sparked when Emre Belozoglu was insulted by a supporter near the team bus.
A Spor have stated that they have reported the incident to the police.
Basaksehir president Goksel Gumusdag has issued an apology.
“For me, the board members and our coach, having the spirit of being a ‘college team’ is more important than any sporting success,” Gumusdag said.
“The unpleasant dispute between some of our players and our press members has deeply distressed me.
“I sincerely apologise to our press members who were affected by the event.”
