Fenerbahce crushed Mersin 4-1 at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium to keep their hopes of winning the Turkish Super League title alive.

Robin van Persie started for the Yellow Canaries and played a key role Volkan Sen’s opening goal as well as setting up Fernandao with an assist and getting on the scoresheet himself from the penalty spot.

The Dutch star now has 16 goals and two assists in all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season which is more than all his former Manchester United teammates.

Wayne Rooney has 14 goals in all competitions for United this season playing 2,839 minutes while Anthony Martial has 13 playing 3,564 minutes. Van Persie has not only scored more goals he has done so playing less minutes – 2,519 to be precise.

Despite struggling for a starting XI position most of the season the experienced striker has still managed to outscore his former teammates.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahce on a three-year deal from United over the summer after falling out with Louis van Gaal.

Fenerbahce are currently second in the Turkish Super League five points behind leaders Besiktas.
