Germany international Mario Gomez has confirmed that he will not return to Besiktas next season.

Gomez put an end to his chapter at Besiktas today citing the political instability in the country as his reason behind the decision.

“The reason for this is completely down to the political situation,” the striker said on his Facebook page.

“There are no sporting or any other reasons that have made me make this decision. It is purely down to the terrible events that happened in the last few days.”

Gomez was expected to return to Besiktas after a successful one-year loan at the club. The powerful striker won the league title and ended the season as the top scorer.

The 31-year-old had an impressive breakthrough season at Besiktas and earned a place back in the Germany national team as a result.

Gomez scored twice for Germany at the European Championships this summer but missed the semi-final tie against France due to injury.

West Ham have been closely linked with Gomez over the summer. The Express reported that the Hammers were making a move for Gomez at the start of the month.

Hammers head coach Slaven Bilic is openly stated that he is interested in Gomez according to the Fanatik.

Bilic was quoted as saying: “Mario Gomez and Gökhan Töre would be a hit in England and are players every manager would want to see ın their team.”
