West Ham target Bilic proved himself at Besiktas says Tony Cottee

Slaven Bilic proved himself at Beşiktaş and is the right man for the West Ham job according to former Hammers striker Tony Cottee.

Cottee said: “For me, Slaven Bilic is the number one choice to become West Ham United’s new manager. When you look at his credentials, he has enjoyed success at both domestic and international level, was a fantastic player, is a top guy and also has a strong connection with the Club.

“I think it is important, if possible, for a manager to have a connection with a club, whether that be as a former player or coach, and Slaven was a very good player for West Ham. I would love to see Slaven Bilic get the job, as he has proved himself with Croatia and Besiktas and I believe he is available.”

Slaven Bilic: “One day I would like to manager in the Premier League”

Bilic is the bookmakers favourite to replace outgoing West Ham head coach Sam Allardyce.

The former Croatian national team manager is odds on favourite with every bookmaker offering betting options on who the future Hammers head coach will be.

Bilic will be leaving Beşiktaş at the end of the season after failing to win the league title. The Black Eagles were in the title race until their recent four game run without a win.

The 46-year-old coach had a great record against English opposition in Europe this season. Bilic maintained an unbeaten record on home soil against Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool.
