Who is Emre Mor? Everything Liverpool fans need to know about the Borussia Dortmund wonder-kid
Just over a year ago Liverpool were linked to Emre Mor, an unknown 18-year-old plying his trade in Denmark for FC Nordsjælland.
The Reds were not just linked they were the bookmakers favourites to sign Mor and ESPN reported that the Premier League outfit were closing in on a transfer.
Had you placed a bet on the Reds you would have ended up losing as it was Dortmund who snapped up the youngster on a five-year deal.

Who is Emre Mor?
Mor rose from a troubled neighbourhood in Copenhagen to join one of the biggest clubs in European football. The youngster was however, unable to celebrate the move with all his family as his father was serving a prison sentence at the time.
Mor went from being known by a few scouts and Football Manager enthusiasts to one of the ‘young players to watch at Euro 2016’.
The rising star was not even a Turkish international until a few months before the tournament. Mor switched from the Denmark youth international team – his country of birth – to the Turkish setup and had just two caps before getting picked for the Euro 2016 squad.
The young forward first got to showcase his talent coming on as a second half substitute against Croatia. Turkey ended up losing 1-0 but it became apparent that Mor was cut of a different cloth. His explosive acceleration, tight ball control and dribbling ability immediately stood out. What was even more impressive for such a young player was his intelligence and vision. His back heel was one of the most iconic moments of the game.
Mor got his big break against the Czech Republic. Turkey national team boss Fatih Terim decided to give him the nod on the wing and he did not disappoint.
The Turkish wonder-kid was arguably man of the match providing Turkey a much needed injection of pace that had been lacking in the first two games.
Mor became the third youngest player to provide an assist in European Championship history when he setup Burak Yilmaz with the opening goal in the 2-0 victory over Czech Republic yesterday.
The 18-year-old is currently the youngest player to have provided an assist in Euro 2016 and was widely praised following his display against the Czech Republic.
There is no doubting that Mor is a huge talent and he would have been the type of transfer you would expect from Jurgen Klopp during his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund. It was however, his successor at the German giants who managed to convince Mor to make the move.
“I was not even thinking about Dortmund but then I got a call from Thomas Tuchel and he told me directly that he wants me at the club and that he has big plans for me,” Mor said after the Turkey game against Croatia.
“If it was not for Tuchel I probably would not have joined but he convinced me where nobody else could.”
First Seaon At Dortmund
Mor played a limited role in the Dortmund side this season which is understandable considering his age and inexperience.
The Dortmund youngster still managed to score three times and provide one assist in 12 Bundesliga appearances.
The 19-year-old grew frustrated towards the end of the season with his lack of playing time under Tuchel.
Dortmund had a pretty disappointing campaign overall finishing in third-place, 18 points behind rivals Bayern Munich.
Tuchel was eventually sacked.
International record
As far as international football is concerned Mor has gone onto establish himself as a regular call up to the Turkish national team.
Fatih Terim’s golden boy scored his first international goal recently in the 3-1 victory over Moldova.
Terim will be hoping there will be more from Mor in Turkey’s though World Cup qualification campaign.
Could Mor be a success at Liverpool?
Liverpool have been closely linked with a move for Mor yet again in the British press.
Mor is the type of player to excite the crowd and he does respond well to a rousing atmosphere, making Anfield a pretty exciting destination.
He may share the same name with Mr Can but positionally he plays a role similar to Sadio Mane and would fit into Klopp’s current system at Liverpool.
Mor would provide additional pace on the flanks and he does have an eye for goal. The 19-year-old is not quite the finished article yet but Klopp has a good record when it comes to developing raw talent.
Another bonus is that unlike most Turkish international players born in Turkey, Mor would not need a work permit to play in the Premier League as he was born in Denmark.
