£20m ace reveals how Man City can reach the level of Man United
Germany international playmaker Ilkay Gundogan has stated that it is Man City’s aim to match their cross-town rivals Manchester United.
The 26-year-old has stated that the Citizens wish to match United’s place on the world football map.
Gundogan went onto say that he is confident Man City will hit the heights achieved by their rivals via hard work and commitment.
“That [matching United] is what we try to achieve,” Gundogan told ESPN when asked about City’s rivalry with United.
“We have big targets. We have things we want to achieve. We just started, you know, it’s a long process.
“We want to get better year by year, and we are working on it — to lift up the club to higher levels. If the club is successful, we will be successful as well.
Gundogan made the move to Man City from Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of the season for £20 million (BBC).
The talented midfielder made 16 apperances for City before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Gundogan is currently in rehabilitation and is expected to return ahead of pre-season training this summer.
Man City are currently in third place in the Premier League, five points ahead of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. The Red Devils do however have one game in hand.
Pep Guardiola’s side travel to London next week to take on an out-of-form Arsenal.
