£20m Leicester City Star Extends Condolences Over 1999 Izmit Earthquake That Killed Over 17,000 People

Leicester City’s most recent signing Caglar Soyuncu has taken to Instagram to extended his condolences to the victims of the 1999 Izmit earthquake on the 19th anniversary of the natural disaster.

The 1999 İzmit earthquake had a magnitude of 7.6 and occurred on 17 August. The earthquake lasted for almost a minute and resulted in the death of 17,000 people.

Izmit and the nearby city of Istanbul were affected by the earthquake in which many buildings were damaged and hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless.

Souyncu completed his transfer to Leicester City on Thursday being granted a work permit to play in England.

The 22-year-old arrived in England yesterday.

Mustafa Dogru who represents Soyncu informed Turkish-Football on Monday that the initial transfer fee was £18.3m [€20.5m] and could rise to £20m [€22.5m] with bonuses.
